ICA 2017

After a record 2016, ICA needed an impact report that carried its mission forward. Rob's team made the report a tactile, people-centered object, then translated its editorial rhythm for the web.

Move forward after the anniversary

ICA's twentieth-year celebration had already looked back. The 2017 report needed to explain what a year of momentum meant for entrepreneurs, workers, and the East Bay economy without becoming another institutional retrospective.

Put programs and people in one story

Education, acceleration, investment, advising, and impact each needed space. Rob's team used editorial pacing, portraits, local imagery, and color to connect those parts while keeping business owners and participants visible as people rather than metrics.

Make production carry meaning

Different papers, folds, stitching, and string gave sections a physical character. Those decisions slowed the reading experience and made the report feel worth holding, aligning its construction with ICA's local, relationship-led mission.

Translate, rather than duplicate, online

The digital edition carried the book's color, navigation, and human stories into a format people could move through and share. Together, print and web formed two useful expressions of the same editorial system.
